Updated: Mar 17, 2021

Player of the Day: 2B Matt Misiti, Lake Howell

Pitcher of the Day: Matt LaPira, American Heritage

American Heritage 3

Orangewood Christian 0

American Heritage clinched Pool C with their 3-0 victory to kick off day two of the FHSI Classic at Sanford Memorial Stadium. Senior pitcher Matthew LaPira pitched a gem for the Stallions, throwing six shutout innings, striking out eight, walking none, and only giving up three hits. At the plate, KC Anchors hit a solo shot along with Nick Romano and Anthony Tralongo driving in a run each.

At 2-0 in pool play, the Stallions didn't allow a run over the course of their two games which is what clinched their spot in the playoffs. Their next game will come on Thursday at 6:45 at Sanford Memorial Stadium against Hagerty. Orangewood Christian will have to wait out the remainder of pool play before their next game is officially scheduled.

Eustis 4

Hagerty 6

Hagerty clinched Pool D with their 6-4 win over Eustis in the second game of the day. Freshman OF Talan Bell gave the Huskies a quick 1-0 lead with his RBI double in the first. Hagerty would proceed to take advantage of mistakes by Eustis to get to a 4-0 lead by the end of the third inning. The Panthers would not go away quietly though as they scored two runs in the top of fourth to cut the lead off in half.

Both teams would continue to trade a pair of runs until the top of the seventh. Eustis would proceed to load the bases with two outs before Hagerty was able to get out of the jam with an infield pop up and win the game.

Hagerty will play in the first round of the playoffs against American Heritage at 6:45 on Wednesday night at Sanford Memorial Stadium. Eustis will play Oviedo on Thursday morning at 11:15 in Sanford.

Flagler Palm Coast 5

Lake Howell 15

Lake Howell brought out the big bats today by run ruling the Bulldogs in the 5th inning. The Silver Hawks were up 7-0 after two innings, but Flagler Palm Coast fought back by scoring five runs in the inning which included a three run homer by senior OF Christian Diaz. Lake Howell would get one of their runs back in the bottom of the inning before scoring six in the following inning, and ultimately one in the bottom of the fifth for the run rule.

Lake Howell would have nine different batters record at least one RBI: Matt Misiti (3), Evander Jimenez (2), Hunter Sandberg (2), CJ Mills (2), Dalton Robinson (1), Pete Howell (1), Jacob Pinsky (1), Connor Spelman (1), and Riley Chapmen (1).

Both teams will await the rest of Pool B play to wrap up before knowing their bracket destinations for Thursday.

Oviedo 13

Barron Collier 5

It was a high scoring affair in Sanford on Tuesday evening. After Oviedo put up five runs in the second inning and another two in the third, Barron Collier started answering back with a run in the bottom of the third and another four in the fourth inning to make it a 7-5 game. That would be the closest this contest would get as Oviedo would go on to put up six runs the very next half inning, and ultimately hold on for the 13-5 win.

Isaiah Barkett and Logan Terrell would drive in three runs apiece for the Lions while Eric Day, Danny Baez, and Josh Valente would each drive in two. The Cougars would also have a pair of players finish with two RBI games: Reid Sondermeyer and Alex Kuenzle.

Oviedo will play Eustis on Thursday morning in at 11:15 while Barron Collier will next play at 8:45 in the morning on Thursday in Sanford. Their opponent is still TBD.

Dunedin 9

Seminole 6

Day two of the FHSI Classic ended on a good one! Seminole jumped out to a 3-0 lead after taking advantage of several errors and held on to this lead through four innings. Dunedin fought back and Noah Bukolt came through with a big two run double in the top of the fifth to tie the game 3-3. After Seminole scored a run to take the lead right back at 4-3, Dunedin answered again to tie it up and eventually gain the lead for good. USF-commit Marcus Brodil, Roc Helton, and Trey Beard also drove in two runs each in this game.

Dunedin will play at 11:15 in Sanford against West Orange on Wednesday with a chance to win Pool B. Seminole will await the conclusion of pool play to find out when their Thursday game will be.
