Dean Guzman was an on-base machine this week. He set the tone early in the first game for Pines Charter, going 2-4 with a double and two RBI against DeMatha Catholic. The next day, against Sagemont, he went 4-4 at the dish with two singles, a double and a triple. He also scored once, drove in one, and stole two bags. Against Killian on Thursday, he reached base twice on a hit and a walk, and also scored once. He wrapped up his week on Friday with another perfect day at the plate, going 2-2 with a triple and a walk versus Palmetto. On the week, he slashed .692/.733/1.154 and had a ridiculous OPS of 1.887.
Knicko Billings was stellar in his only appearance of the week. On Thursday afternoon, he faced the Highland Hawks who were gunning for a spot in the championship game. Billings shut those hopes down from the start of the game. The senior had his best stuff working as he allowed only three hits and two walks over six innings. No Hawk player was able to score, and he also struck out twelve batters, including the last three he faced in the sixth inning. Billings is committed to play at DI Bethune-Cookman University next season.
