Academy Tournament Day Two

Central Pointe Christian 7

Pro 5 Academy 3

Central Pointe Christian jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking home their first win of the weekend, 7-3, over Pro 5.

The White Tigers pounced early on, scoring three in the first. Edrick Ayala led off with a single and moved to third on an error. He was brought in on an RBI groundout from Adonis Javier. Justin Tejeda and Isaac Marte then added singles of their own. A defensive miscue by the rightfielder allowed Tejeda to come around to score. A third error one batter later brought Marte in, giving Central Pointe the 3-0 advantage.

Pro5 would get one run back in the second an RBI single from Will Hood. Central Pointe doubled that in the third when Tejeda and Marte hit back to back doubles to make it 5-1.

Pro 5 added a run each in both the 5th and 6th innings, but again, Central Pointe was able to respond. Keniel de Leon put a nail in the coffin with a two-run single through the left side in the bottom of the sixth, to make the final of 7-3.

Abdiel Rivera allowed one earned run over 4.2 innings to earn the win. Justin Tejeda was the offensive standout, recording three hits, including a double, and swiping two bags. Tyler Tuthill took the loss for Pro5, but had a game-high six strikeouts. Tyler Stocum reached base safely three times for Pro5.

IMG Performance 7

Avant Garde 5

After falling behind early, IMG Performance was able to mount a comeback and hold on to their lead, winning their second game of the tournament 7-5 over Avant Garde.

After IMG scored once int he top of the first on an error, Jose Falcon gave Avant Garde the lead in the bottom of the second with a two-run single.

IMG blew the game open in the top of the third inning. After a hit by pitch and a single put two men on, Andrew Stanley delivered a double to the gap to plate two runs. On the very next pitch, Tucker Mitchell sent a ball to deep left for a two-run homerun, making it a 5-2 ballgame.

In the fifth inning, IMG got back to work, scoring twice more thanks to RBI singles from Kaito Hara and Keijiro Furikawa.

Avant Garde made things interesting in the sixth. With one out, Bryan Garcia singled, and was brought home on a double from Emanual Quijeda. Julian Rivera followed suit with a double of his own to score Quijeda, making the score 7-4.

Jose Falcon joined the doubles party in the seventh inning, which plated Matt Garcia to make it 7-5. After Falcon swiped third base, Blaze Alexander was able to induce a groundout from Quijeda, who represented the game-tying run, to end the game and earn the save.

Jack Stroud took home the win with 5.1 innings of work, scattering six hits and striking out five. Tucker Mitchell paced the offense with three hits, two RBI and a run scored. Jose Falcon recorded two hits for the second straight game, and also added three RBI, to lead the Wolves.

Next Level Academy 5

FTB Platinum 2

Box Score

Next level didn't need many hits to outlast FTB Platinum in the night, as their five runs on four knocks was enough to secure their first win of the tournament.

The first two runs of the game were scores in the top of the second inning thanks to an error and a wild pitch. A third run was added to Next Level's ledger in the third when Chase Wilkerson scored on an error as well. They would then tack on two more in the fourth inning. Xavier Torres battled during an eleven-pitch at bat, and managed to drive in a run on an infield single. Chase Wilkerson then added another run on an RBI groundout that scored Austin Ray to make it 5-0.

FTB attempted a comeback in the bottom of the fifth. After a leadoff error, Pedro Moreno sent a scocher down the left field line and legged out an RBI triple. Moreno would come in to score on a delayed double steal two batters later to make it 5-2. The scoring would stop there however, as Jacob Gilliland dominated the FTB lineup.

Gilliland went the distance in this one, scattering three hits over seven innings. Only one of the two runs he allowed was earned. Most impressive was his strikeout total, which reached twelve on the night, compared to only one walk.
