Florida High 9 Flagler Palm Coast 3 Box Score
The Florida High Seminoles used one big inning to end their week on high note, earning a 9-3 win over Flagler Palm Coast on Friday morning.
In the top of the second inning, the Seminoles took advantage of sloppy defense and pitching from FPC. A walk, error and fielder’s choice loaded the bases for Aaron Alexander, who promptly singled to score Tanner Godwin. Argene Lynn then followed with an RBI single of his own. A balk brought in run number three, and then Trevor Hanselman cleared the bases with a double. Four more runs would score in the inning via error, hit by pitch, walk and an RBI single from Lynn again. By the end of it all, the score was 9-0 in favor of Florida High.
The Bulldogs were able to scrape together a pair in the third inning on a groundout and error, and then added one more in the fifth on a wild pitch. The scoring would end there though as the Florida High bullpen of Austin Fuller and AJ Thorp were able to shut things down.
Jack Murphy earned the win on the mound with a line of five innings, seven hits, two earned runs, and five strikeouts. He was also 1-3 with a run and RBI at the plate.
Argene Lynn led the way on offense for Florida High, going 3-5 with a run and three RBI on the day. He led the Seminoles with a .333 average for the tournament. Carlos Nieves picked up three hits to lead the Bulldogs.
Deltona 4 Christian Academy of Knoxville 2 Box Score
The Deltona Wolves were able to secure a second win on the week after a 4-2 win over Christian Academy of Knoxville on Friday morning.
Deltona staked an early lead in the third when Edgar Azucey drove in Bryan Rodriguez with an RBI groundout. CAK was quick to respond with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Zane Keener, Garrett Breeden and Jacob Tate loaded the bases with a walk and two singles. Cole Campbell would plate Keener with a sac fly, followed by an RBI single from Connor Jurek to make it 2-1.
In the top of the third inning, Ray Pereira was able to tie the game up for Deltona after reaching on an error, and then scoring on an error. CAK was able to pick up two outs and looked to be escaping the jam. However, three consecutive walks would bring in two more runs, making it 4-2.
Once the Wolves had a lead, it was time for Edgar Azucey to take the mound. The shortstop/RHP was able to keep the Warriors at bay, tossing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the save, his second of the week. He also had two RBI on the day. Hunter Neller chipped in a pair of hits and a run to help the Deltona offense as well.
South Fork 12 Tampa Prep 6 Box Score
The South Fork Bulldogs' offense was in full force on Friday afternoon, defeating the Tampa Prep Terrapins 12-6.
The tone was set early on, with the Bulldogs scoring four in the bottom of the first. Tim Kudlinski picked up an RBI, and three runs came around to score on an error when Hunter Wentworth laid down a bunt and the ball was thrown away.
After Tampa Prep got one back in the third, it was deja vu all over again for South Fork. With two on, Wentworth laid down a sac bunt again, and for the second time, the ball was thrown away, allowing two runs to score. Andrew Mitchell then drove in Wentworth with a sac fly to make it 7-1.
Tampa Prep made it interesting with three more in the top of the fourth thanks to an error and RBIs from Brian Campagnano and Landon Schabes. For the third time, Wentworth found himself in the mix, this time driving in Tim Kudlinski and Jacob Travis with a single.
A few more runs were traded by both teams in the late innings, but in the end it was South Fork who finished on top by a score of 12-6. Travis had a big day for the Bulldogs, scoring four times and also tossing 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball on the mound. Marcus Mastellone also got on base safely four times for South Fork. Will McLaren as 2-3 with two runs to lead the Terrapins.
University 10 North Florida Christian 5 Box Score
There was no better way to wrap up the week than with two undefeated team squaring off for the championship. After a few back and forth innings, the University Titans were able to pull away from the North Florida Christian Eagles, winning 10-5 to claim the FHSI Challenge championship.
Carson Neal, Matthew Dickey and Trent Phillips all recorded RBI base hits in the top of the first staking a 3-0 lead. Rather than roll over, the Titans answered back immediately. With two runners on, Will Quinones delivered a double to cut the lead to 3-2. Three batters later, Brendan Whaley drove in Quinones with a single to tie it up. After a pitching change, University scored twice more in the inning on an RBI hit by pitch from Jackson Seamens and RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Jarrett Hart.
North Florida Christian was able to inch closer in the third inning thanks to a home run to left field off the bat of Carson Neal. A wild pitch plated Cameron Neal one inning later to tie the game up at five a piece. It looked like the Eagles might take the lead after JD Tease lifted a ball to left field, but Tyler Martin was thrown out trying to score by Ian Sanmoogan. Sanmoogan then helped University regain the lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run single that scored Jackson Roberts and Quinones. A Brendan Whaley triple and a balk in the sixth inning added three more to the board, making the final score of 10-5.
Ben Gaul was phenomenal in his relief effort on the mound. He entered the game in the fourth, and finished the game for University without allowing a run in 3.2 innings of work. Quinones, Sanmoogan and Whaley all had two hits to lead the Titans offense. Carson Neal was 3-4 to lead the Eagles' attack.
