FHSI Challenge Day Two

The Pine Crest Panthers dominated their second straight game in the FHSI, outlasting the Taravella Trojans by a score of 8-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers were in complete control throughout the game. They scored three runs in the first on two errors and a hit by pitch. In the second, they added another courtesy of a Michael Rothenberg double. Three more weer added to the board in the third on a single from Jacob Singer and a two-run base hit from Jared deFaria. deFaria would add an RBI double to his ledger in the fifth inning, scoring Rothenberg.

Sam Wurth cruised through 4.2 innings, scattering three hits and striking out two. He was spotted by Shane Williams, who through a scoreless 1.1 innings himself.

The Trojans refused to go quietly, putting up a fight in the seventh inning. Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases before an out was recorded. After a strikeout, an error by the third baseman allowed Logan Lixie to score. A walk to Nathan Housen scored Seth Brizel, followed by a two-run double from Johny McDonald, making it 8-4. Maxx Estrin was called on for the final out, and, with the bases loaded, struck out Lixie, who represented the tying run at the plate.

Wurth earned the win for Pine Crest, who is now 2-0 on the week. deFaria reached base four times on two singles, a double and walk. He scored once, drove in three and also stole a base. Jack Sinclair had two hits to lead the Trojans.

 

Bishop Moore 8

The Bishop Moore Hornets turned a strong start from Josh Bates and multiple defensive miscues by the Palmetto Panthers to take home a 8-3 victory on Tuesday evening.

The Panthers started the game with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning with RBI from Chris Ortega and Austin Taylor. The Hornets were quick to respond however, with three runs in their half of the inning. Bobby Spitulski singled and eventually scored on an error for the first Hornets run. Fabian Escalante would score next after another error from the Panthers. The third run of the inning came on a wild pitch, scoring Quinton Martinez. The Hornets would then add a fourth run in the second inning on another wild pitch.

Both starting pitchers settled down in the third and fourth innings before the scoring picked back up in the fifth with Palmetto scoring once and Bishop Moore adding another pair. The Hornets then repeated the process in the sixth inning with RBI from Martinez and Escalante, making the final score of 8-3.

Josh Bates was consistently pumping 90+ on the radar gun in his 4.2 innings of work. He allowed three runs, though only one was earned, while striking out ten. Alex Braynt earned a save for Bishop Moore by throwing the final 2.1 innings and allowing zero runs.

Martinez was 2-3 with two runs and an RBI to lead the Hornet offense. Teammate Connor Scheitzach also chipped in two hits and drove in a pair. Chris Ortega led the charge for the Panthers, going 2-3 with two RBI.
