Most Valuable Player:
Logan Allen, University
A dozen or so scouts showed up to Sanford Memorial Stadium on Wednesday afternoon to see Logan Allen pitch. They were treated to a dominant performance as the senior lefty held the East Ridge Knights in check to the tune of five innings pitched, three hits, zero runs, zero walks and twelve strikeouts. Working with a 89-92 MPH fastball and a devastating slider, the Knights' bats couldn't touch the future MLB draft pick. And while Allen is known for his presence on the mound, he was also more than efficient with the bat. He started the week with a 3-3 effort against Montverde, scoring twice and adding an RBI double. He then picked up a hit in each of the next three games, finishing the week 6-14 at the plate. Allen is slated to attend Florida International University in the fall.
Most Valuable Pitcher:
Jay Bramblett, Hillcrest
A perfect performance from Jay Bramblett sent the Hillcrest Patriots to the Championship game on Thursday. The sophomore right hander handled a dangerous Barron Collier offense, setting down fifteen straight hitters. With a potent offense behind him that scored eleven runs in four innings, the game was called due to mercy rule. Bramblett recorded three strikeouts in his start.
Honorable Mention:
Spencer Strider, Christian Academy of Knoxville
In one of the most dominant pitching performances the FHSI has ever seen, Spencer Strider tossed a 7 inning complete game no-hit masterpiece against Florida High. Strider fanned 18 of 22 batters faced. To make it more impressive, it was his team's first game of the season. Though the Christian Academy of Knoxville did not compete in the entire tournament this year, this performance was certainly deserving of recognition.
