Edgewater Eagles 6 Niceville Eagles 3 Box Score
One big inning from the Edgewater Eagle offense changed the tide of the game, and helped the Eagles to a 6-3 win over the Niceville Eagles on Friday.
Niceville was able to jump to an early lead in the second inning. Christian Huff reached on a one out single, and was replaced with courtesy runner Chase Outzen. Outzen would then steal second base, and move to third on an error. Tanner Buharp would then deliver a sac fly to center field to score Outzen and make it 1-0. Cole Sorvillo and Matt Boswell would each pitch well for the next couple of innings. Niceville was able to add another run to the board in the fifth inning when Edward Hooten led the inning off by reaching second base on an error. Jacob Clark would bring him in immediately with a single to make it 2-0.
The Edgewater offense woke up in the sixth inning. After getting a flyball out to start the inning, Joey Bellini and Jonny Austing were both hit by pitches to put two men on. Jonah Garrison would then single to load the bases. An Andrew Balke single would bring in a run, and then Richard Kazmi would come up with a huge two out double, scoring three runs. Hayden Bhavsar would follow suit with a double of his own to score Kazmi and make the score 6-2. Niceville would score one more in the sixth on an RBI double from Brady Smith, but it wouldn’t be enough as Edgewater held on for the win.
Cole Sorvillo threw five innings in the win, scattering four hits with three strikeouts. Kazmi was 1-3 with the 3-RBI double. Drew Frederic was 2-3 with a triple and run scored for Niceville.
University Titans 10
Windward Wildcats 0
Dylan Stevens and the University offense made quick work of the Windward Wildcats on Friday, winning by a score of 10-0.
The Titan got things started early in the first inning, scoring four runs with two outs to take a commanding lead. Two costly errors allowed the rally to continue on back to back at bats. The would add another run to the lead in the second when Danny Acevedo singled home Quenell Rutledge. After a scoreless third inning, the titans picked up three more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a pair of doubles from Logan Allen and Scottie Seamens. The final blow would come in the fifth inning when Cody Vandehey’s single plated Logan Allen, giving them a walk-off 10 run rule victory.
Stevens was tremendous for University, allowing just two hits and no runs in five innings pitched. He walked one batter and had one strikeout. Only one player for Windward made it past second base. Antonio Vega was 3-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI for the Titans.
Trinity Christian Eagles 2
El Rancho Dons 1
Trinity Christian and El Rancho battled it out on the last day of the FHSI Showcase in a low scoring affair. A couple of late inning rallies helped the Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the Dons.
After two scoreless innings from both sides, El Rancho was able to strike first in the third inning. With two outs, Vincent Fuentes walked. An error by the pitcher would allow Fuentes to move all the way to third base. Bobby Banuelos would draw a walk of his own, followed by a hit by pitch to Adrian Palacios to load the bases. Control issues struck once more for Trinity as Ruben Rios was then plunked, scoring Fuentes. In the bottom of the 4th, the Eagles would make a comeback. Ryan Corrigan led things off with a single, and would move to second base on a balk. He was then sacrificed to third base by Collin Curtis. Spencer Taylor’s base hit in the next at bat would score Corrigan and tie the game.
The winning run would come across the plate for the Eagles in the sixth inning. Again, it was Corrigan leading things off with a single. An error would move him to second, and a single from Curtis would put him on third. For the second time, Spencer Taylor would bring Corrigan home, this time on a sac fly to centerfield. That would end the scoring for the game as Khalil Wilson, who had come in to pitch in the second inning, threw scoreless innings in the third through seventh innings. His final line would read 4.2 innings, allowing two hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Corrigan was 2-3 with two runs scored to lead the Eagles on offense.
Florida Christian Patriots 7
Viera Hawks 3
The Florida Christian Patriots offense stayed hot after scoring 11 runs last night, this time putting seven on the board to beat the Viera Hawks 7-3.
Viera actually jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. With two outs, PJ Robinson drew a walk and would move all the way to third base thanks to a steal and a wild pitch. Alex Brait would then send a base hit to the outfield to score Robinson and make it 1-0. The Patriots would then host a two out rally of their own in the bottom half. An error allowed Chris Coipel to reach first base, and the move to second on a steal. Kendrick Garcia would then rip a double to the gap to score Coipel. Robert Fabelo would continue the rally with a single, putting runners on the corners. A Jorge Iza double would score both runners and make the score 3-0. Then it was Seve Rodriguez’s turn to join the hit parade, as his single would plate Iza. The Patriots would then add two more runs; in the bottom of the second, a single from Garcia would score Brandon Chinea, and in the fourth a Fabelo sac fly brought in Chinea again.
Facing a 6-2 hole, Viera would attempt a comeback in the 5th inning. After Christian and PJ Robinson each singled, they were sacrificed over by Alex Brait. Zach Kaye would then deliver a single to score both Robinsons. A big strikeout from Andy Garcia would end the rally, and the Hawks would not threaten again. Chinea would add an RBI single in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 7-3, where it would end. Garcia threw five innings, scattering seven hits and striking out six. Garcia, who was 4-4 with 5 RBI on Thursday night, was 2-4 with two more RBI on Friday. Iza was also 2-4 with two RBI for the Patriots.
